Ball State University has selected Beth Goetz as its new director of intercollegiate athletics.

Goetz filled in as interim athletic director at the University of Minnesota following the resignation of Norwood Teague in 2015, but was passed over for the permanent position when the school hired Mark Coyle.

She’ll join Ball State in June after finishing out the year at the University of Connecticut, where she has been at the chief operating officer for athletics.

She succeeds the retiring Mark Sandy at Ball State.

“What I appreciate most about Beth is that she believes athletics is part of the overall educational experience for college students,” says Geoffery Mearns, Ball State’s president. “As a previous college athlete, coach and administrator, Beth understands the importance of leading others and how that will play a major role in enhancing competitive success for all our sports programs.”

Goetz will oversee athletic programs and activities that fully conform with institutional, Mid-American Conference and NCAA rules and guidelines. She was a soccer player at Brevard College and Clemson University.

“I believe in the impact of higher education and know a student’s participation in college athletics at this level can be an integral component and enhancement to this transformative experience,” she says.
